California poppy 2022/24 was produced as a fundraiser to support the production costs for Catanese’s upcoming publication, Fever Field, an artist-book-as-catalog for her immersive installation exhibited in Widening the Lens: Photography, Ecology, and the Contemporary Landscape at Carnegie Museum of Art, May 11, 2024–Jan. 12, 2025.
Catanese grew this California poppy in her Pittsburgh garden in 2022, made a unique lumen print with its impression then reproduced the fixed image as a pigment print on washi paper with a velvety graphic burr.
